Synthetic Aperture Radar technology

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology has been my favourite in my undergraduation for why i chose it to be my project work. The topic i chose was based on Interferometric techniques - a very specialised cum sophisticated technique on radar processing.

So whats so special about this new and robust technology ?
here's a list

1. SAR scans the earth below all through day and night

2.Its independent of location and weather

3.Its unmasked by clouds, the biggest problem
in remote sensing of tropics

4.It uses microwaves which "sees through " clouds

5. Hey... Its so cool (its so colourful though ironically its
monochromatic !! :) )

Ever wondered or fascinated by the anthology of colours on a soap bubble...? or mystified by majestic rainbows ? if so, surely you'l love the way interferometry works ..... the so called "interferogram" that forms after interfering the two images or "scenes" of the same location..

One can find the smallest crack in the earth's crust due to earthquake.....or know the behaviour of cyclones, weather, atmosphere, crustal deformation , sea waves and their patterns, or you can even spot a ship in the oceans, detect oil slicks, know more about Tsunamis and so on... like the magic lamp of Alladin, Radar works wonders!!! Wanna know more about SAR technology or interferometry? Do wait... Till my next elaborate post on the same.. with information on various resources....!!
